Term 4 Connected Online Learning Module - Active Collection Development

Registrations for the Active Collection Development module of the Connected Librarians course are open today Monday 16 October and will close Friday 27 October. 

One of the best parts of our job is the chance to buy books and resources for our students and schools. This course will help you with that selection process and possibly challenge the way you do it.

On successful course completion, learners will be able to:

·  develop a thoughtful selection criteria for one of their library’s collections

·  collate a collection of resources to aid in the selection process

·  identify personal and external biases in selecting resources

·  develop strategies for overcoming bias in the selection process

The course will be starting on Monday 30 October and run for 2 weeks. 

This course is designed by New Zealand school librarians, for school librarians - for anyone who is ready and willing to learn and try new things and share their thoughts and learning with others.

Fake News - the next topic for Connected Librarians

Registrations for the Digital Literacy - Fake News module of the Connected Librarians course are currently open.  

Being digitally literate is an increasingly important part of allowing people to participate as informed citizens in today’s society. It encompasses a variety of knowledge, skills and behaviours, some of which need to be explicitly taught.

As digital literacy is such a large area to cover, this module will focus on just one key aspect - the ability to identify, mitigate and deal with “fake news”.

Applications close on Friday 17 March and the course will be starting on Monday 27 March. 

This course is designed by New Zealand school librarians, for school librarians - those just starting out with online tools, who are ready and willing to try new things.

Online PD Term 3 Course Reminder

Hello everyone.  Welcome back to another term.  I hope everyone that had a break got lots of lovely R&R time in, and that those of you who work through the school holiday period got time to enjoy the piece and quiet :-)

This is a reminder that Registrations for the Content Curation module of the Connected Librarians course are currently open.  

We are all pretty good at developing our print collection and compiling a pile of books appropriate for our students and teachers to use when they have a particular research topic.  After all that is what we do best ... match people and resources together.  But when it comes to online resources, just how do we make the equivalent of a stack of books?  Find out how you can best support your staff & students by providing great digital resources.

Registration Open for Connected Librarians Digital Citizenship module

We are pleased to announce that Registrations for module #6 (Digital Citizenship) of the Connected Librarians course are now open.  Digital Citizenship covers a very large range of topics - for this module we will be concentrating on the ethical use of information and its attribution - otherwise known as Referencing and Citation.

Applications close on Thursday 5th May, and the course will be starting on Monday 16th May.
