Our Conference proceedings web page now has a number of presentations and other information available to view or download. More will be added to the page as we receive presentations and other resources from our presenters. 

We are very grateful to those who shared their conference experience through Twitter, it adds value for those who were there and (like me!) weren't taking notes in all the sessions. And for those who couldn't attend conference it will give you much to read and follow up on - almost as good as being there! I would particularly like to acknowledge and thank Steph Ellis who tweeted prolifically during conference, and has now created Storify collections of the Twitter stream relating to all our keynote speakers.

Conference is all done but the sharing continues!

What a great 2.5 days of networking and learning and it’s not too late to catch some of the great professional learning that took place.

Hello everyone,

I hope you have all had safe holidays and journeys home from conference and are now ready to jump into the last term of the year with renewed energy.  Thank you to those who made it to conference and contributed to an amazing time of networking and learning.  If you were unable to make it to conference, there are still lots of opportunities to catch up with professional learning over the next few months.

Workshop Presentations

The presentations that are available to us will be added to the SLANZA website just as soon as we can, so you can catch up with any you missed or get the notes and links from those you attended.

Conference Attendance Survey

SLANZA 2015 Conference in Christchurch was a fantastic and successful event, well attended by members with a general feeling that a conference provides very valuable professional development and a great opportunity for connecting face to face. Approximately a third of our members attended and although this is a healthy number for our small organisation, there was a large disparity between the number of secondary school attendees to primary school. We need to ascertain the reasons members did not attend the conference, and would greatly appreciate those members who did not attend filling out this quick online survey Conference Attendance.

Book Protection Products Conference Grant expressions of interest

SLANZA Te Tai Tokerau are offering members the opportunity to attend the 2015 SLANZA Conference, From the Ground Up, in Christchurch at St Andrew’s College, 28-30 September, during the school holidays.

The SLANZA Conference is the ultimate opportunity for Professional Development for school librarians. Bedazzled in choice with three days of speakers, sessions and workshops, you will be inundated with new ideas and fresh approaches for your school library as well as professionally for yourself. Around two hundred librarians are expected at the Conference so you will be surrounded by a community of like-minded people for discussions and this type of networking proves extremely valuable. Attending a SLANZA Conference is a wonderful experience that I can’t recommend highly enough. This is the first time Christchurch has hosted the Conference since the earthquake so it is extra-special supporting them. In addition, we have been offered affordable accommodation at St Andrew’s College’s new Hostel.

For many years SLANZA has been fortunate to have received sponsorship from Book Protection Products. Even though the business is under new management, they have willingly supported SLANZA again this year with their generous sponsorship. SLANZA National Executive has decided that these funds should be tagged specifically for assisting members to attend Conference.

Therefore, on behalf of SLANZA Te Tai Tokerau I am delighted to ask for expressions of interest in receiving a Book Protection Product Conference Grant. Members who have not received SLANZA Conference grant money previously may apply for this funding. In addition, members need to be willing to share their Conference experience back to the region at a SLANZA event and to submit an article in to the Conference issue of Collected.

Please apply in writing outlining your interest in attending, and the benefits you foresee for yourself professionally and for your school. Applications must be in to Julia Smith by Wednesday, May 13, 2015, Week 4 of term. 

SLANZA Conference 2015

Spring 2015 will bring the next national SLANZA conference to Christchurch and planning is already well underway for this three day event.

The theme of the conference is From the Ground Up – Growing Libraries for the Future.  Never before have libraries been in such a time of change and re-evaluation of services.  Everyone in the library and information industry is on a journey and we are all at different stages of our travels – sometimes the stage we are at even depends on any given day or hour as we are all forever learning, building or growing our skills and knowledge.  It is the aim of the 2015 conference planning committee to ensure there is something for everyone at conference to help you continue to grow – no matter where you are on your learning journey.  Every single person who contributes to the school library community is valuable and we want a conference that caters for and reflects how libraries are built figuratively and literally ‘from the ground up’! We will bring everything from practical, hands-on workshops to ideas to help you grow and change your library for future focused learning.  Early in 2015 the conference website will go live and we will add workshops and information on keynote speakers as these are secured or confirmed.

Conference 2015 will be held at St Andrew’s College in Christchurch.  St Andrew’s College is a Year 1-13 co-educational school situated in the north of Christchurch on Papanui Road.  Accommodation will be available on site in the new boarding houses at very reasonable rates or you can choose hotel and motel accommodation just minutes away.  You will be able to enjoy the river bank in springtime which runs through the College grounds and a wee touch of Scotland in Christchurch.

It is too far out from conference as yet to give a confirmed registration fee but we are endeavouring to keep the costs as close as possible to the 2013 conference in Wellington.  The early bird, member registration for that conference was $375 with the conference dinner additional at $80.  We will also offer author breakfasts and these were a cost of $30 in Wellington.   Start talking to your school Principal now so you can budget for this essential professional development opportunity.
